PC players who want more room to explore The Blood of Dawnwalker can now change one of its defining rules, although not through an official setting. The newly updated Better Story Timer mod on Nexus Mods offers configurations that extend the campaign's initial deadline from 30 days to 90, increase the number of time segments in a day, and remove time costs from traits and skills. It is a community-made Windows modification, not a Rebel Wolves feature, so its author explicitly advises using it at the player's own risk.
What the timer mod changes
The mod's current page describes three main adjustments. Its standard files can extend the main quest allowance to 90 days, while other variants change a day from eight segments to 16 or 32. An optional install removes the time cost of traits and skills, leaving their other stated costs intact. Those changes affect the campaign's resource-management layer rather than adding quests, characters or performance features. The listed files can be combined in particular configurations, although the author warns players not to alter the segment setting without understanding each option.
That makes the mod a practical choice for a specific kind of PC player: someone interested in the game's world and story but less interested in making progression compete with its deadline. PC Gamer reported that the campaign presents Coen with roughly 30 days and nights, and that completing objectives, gaining skills and handling other activities consumes discrete time segments. The mod does not turn those systems into officially supported accessibility options; it changes configuration and game package files on a local installation. Its appeal is the extra time it creates, not a claim that the original system was built incorrectly.

Installation has a clear PC-only catch
Nexus Mods says Better Story Timer was originally uploaded on 2 September and updated on 4 September. Its instructions call for one of the day-or-segment versions to be copied as Game.ini into the Windows local application-data configuration directory. The optional no-time-cost files instead go in the game's Content/Paks/~mods folder, which players may need to create. The author recommends installing after the prologue and says the modification should be compatible with work that does not alter the default game configuration as an asset or loose Game.ini.
Those instructions also establish the limits that matter before anyone treats it as a routine quality-of-life setting. Better Story Timer is not compatible with other timer-related modifications, and its author cannot guarantee that a save remains stable if a player has installed other timer mods. The page says there has not yet been enough time to check every quest and interaction, even though its 90-day and no-skill-time-cost options are described as safe by the creator. That is a useful distinction: the mod has a clear purpose, but it has not had the testing or support process of a patch.
Official support has not been announced
Rebel Wolves' Steam listing confirms that The Blood of Dawnwalker is available on PC through Steam, alongside PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions. The listing describes the game as a single-player open-world action RPG centred on Coen's attempt to save his family, but it does not advertise an official mod programme or campaign-timer toggle. The studio's press centre does publish a media pack with official screenshots and key art; that is distinct from confirming support for player-made changes. For now, Better Story Timer should be understood as an independently made option for the Windows version.
PC Gamer's coverage of the mod notes that the original timer can feel less punishing in practice than its presentation suggests, because it steers players away from complete-map play rather than imposing an always-running countdown. The same reporting argues that the mechanic is one of the game's more distinctive ideas. That tension explains why the mod is useful without making a wider verdict for every player. It gives people who find the deadline distracting a way to relax it, while players who want the intended pressure can simply leave their installation untouched.
What PC players should do now
The sensible first step is to read the current Nexus Mods page rather than relying on an older download guide, since Better Story Timer has already received an update. Choose a single days-or-segments configuration, check whether any existing modification also affects the timer, and follow the stated folder instructions exactly. The author provides an uninstall path: delete the added Game.ini and or the installed package files. Since the modification works outside the game's own settings, players should expect the usual limits of an unsupported local change rather than a developer guarantee.
There is no evidence in the sources consulted that Rebel Wolves plans to add an official relaxed timer, a more severe challenge setting, or formal mod tools. Any such change would need a studio announcement before it could be treated as confirmed. Until then, the decision is straightforward for PC owners: play the released campaign as configured, or use this community mod with its stated compatibility warnings if the time budget is preventing the sort of exploration they want. Console players do not have an equivalent installation route in the published instructions.
